GET INVOLVED
If you are 60 or older, there is a place in the movement for you. Whether you are an individual or part of a senior living community, you have an important role to play. We need your voice, and we will give you a place to exercise it.
You can join us as an individual and, if you wish, you can stay that way. All you have to do is believe in our mission and provide us with your contact information. We will provide you with information, encouragement, and organizational support. You will be kept advised about governmental activity that is destructive of our common values and about your options for dealing with it. Through our website, emails, social media, Zoom meetings, and personal outreach, you will receive suggestions for actions you might take, provocative commentary, and an opportunity to connect with others. Or, better yet, you can start your own chapter.
Perhaps you are already part of a group of seniors who are in sympathy with the SCFA mission. Or perhaps you just have friends who are. Either way, just provide us with their contact information and declare yourselves as a chapter. Adopt your own rules. Select your own leadership. Meet when, where, and how often you want. Choose which sector of activity you want to pursue. We’re with you. Let us follow your story, and we will provide you with all of the benefits provided to every member.
In addition, we will connect you to the Council of Affiliated Chapters so that your members can hear and be heard through a representative you will select to be on the Council. We are conducting regular virtual meetings of the chapter representatives via Zoom to help us make policy and improve our services. We want you to participate in our decision-making in this fashion. Where the priorities of multiple groups overlap, there will be opportunities for us to act together. Acting together, we will be able to achieve real power in opposing unconstitutional conduct; advocating for justice, common sense and enlightened legislation; taking on entrenched interests; and carrying out effective protests. Where it makes sense, we will make common cause with other organizations in the civic space. Working through its members and groups of members and allied organizations, SCFA will have the best chance of developing and carrying out positive, lawful, and effective strategies for promoting the core values themselves, the very sinews of our democracy.
In all of this we will be bringing something unique to the civic marketplace: the voice of the senior adult as an active citizen, not as a supplicant seeking largesse, not as someone whose age is thought by a few to disqualify her or him from being a meaningful participant in civic dialogue, but rather as an experienced and determined advocate seeking only the greater good of the Republic.
However you choose to join, we would be grateful for your financial support. Please refer to the How to Donate page. This project is supported by and depends upon the contributions of generous members. There is no financial minimum. Give what you can.
