WHY SCFA?

Understanding the roots, strength, and benefits of joining the movement

Why Was SCFA Created?

Senior Citizens for America (“SCFA”) was founded at a dark time in the history of the United States of America. Since Inauguration Day 2025, the country has become increasingly autocratic. Fear is being used as a tactic to get people to acquiesce in things they’ve never countenanced before. Lawlessness has been excused when it suits the President’s purposes, as exemplified by his mass pardon of the rioters who had besieged the U. S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Worse yet, some would encourage Americans to hate those who have views different from their own and treat them as enemies. These things are dividing our people and driving the nation to a new and dangerous place. America’s most fundamental civic values are under threat. SCFA was established to confront these new realities. We plan to stand up to them and will provide services to those who would join us in standing up to them. We have no illusion that the work will be easy. It will be hard. We will have to fight the autocrats at every step, and certain interests will be unremitting in their opposition. However, we go forward in a spirit of optimism and determination, convinced that our cause – standing up for the values that made America the extraordinary country it is – is a just and positive one. Moreover, we believe in the inherent goodness of the American people, even those who may disagree with us today. At bottom, our struggle is not directed against them but rather against the political leaders who have misled them, cynically perverting their positions of power and seeking to divide us in an endless quest to secure still more power. America will in time reject this, and ultimately time is on our side.

Why Senior Citizens?

Our seniority is not a liability; it is an amazing plus. With decades of life experience behind us, we have grown in maturity and judgment. We have brought children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into the world. We care about them and all of America’s children. We believe that we have a moral obligation to look after them and the world they will live in in the future. More than most, we know what is at stake. We hold the highest office in the land: citizen. And we vote!

  1. You will become part of a growing national movement of Senior Citizens, adding your voice to its collective effort to protect the nation’s democracy.
  2. You will receive our monthly newsletters and periodic bulletins.
  3. Through the newsletters and bulletins, and through the website itself, you will learn of numerous opportunities to take action.  These opportunities will cover a broad spectrum of possibilities, ranging from ways you can counter autocratic abuse all the way to steps you might take to promote civic education and voting.  You have more power than you know, and we are here to help you exercise it. 
  4. You will be able to share your news and photos through the Members page of the website.  Go to the Contact Us page and submit them to be considered for posting.
  5. You will be able to read SCFA news releases when they are issued and thoughtful essays in our Blogs section.  If you are interested in submitting a blog yourself, use the Contact Us page.  We will review all drafts and consider them for posting in the Blogs section.
  6.  If you have joined as an individual member and would like to find or create a chapter, we will work with you to find others to collaborate with.
  7. At the very moment of joining, you will have increased the size of SCFA and added further impact to the Senior Citizen voice.
  8. Finally, you will have the immense satisfaction of passing the gifts bequeathed to us by our forebears – our Constitution and laws, freedoms, and democratic norms – on to those who follow us.
